Tia now has 553 Promotores serving 172,000 people in Mexico. This Promotora just graduated in San Pedro Itzican, Jalisco with her son watching.  He attended many classes with her.   His mother learned how to deliver babies, make a water filtration system using household items, give an intramuscular injection, do CPR and how to spot and manage diabetes.  Her skills will be especially useful here because they live a great distance from the nearest doctor and because the water quality is abysmal.  Her selfless dedication to learning and serving others means her adorable little boy will enjoy a higher quality of life.

Mother’s Day in Mexico is today, May 10th!  Tia would like to wish everyone a Happy Mother’s Day.  Many of our Promotoras are mothers, and all our 519 Promotores work tirelessly to make sure that moms are healthy and have a safe place to bring their babies into the world.  We also celebrate the beautiful, smart and strong women of Mexico, the aunts, grandmothers and other female role models that are the glue that hold our families and communities together.  Take this opportunity to thank the great women in your life!

Chem Lab Getting a Spectrophotometer

Our UVM Mobile Chem Lab is thrilled with this donation from Barry and Carmen Libman, a new Spectrophotometer, donated to the Tia Foundation!  The couple accompanied us on our last brigade to Atengo, Jalisco and were moved by the dedication of the Quemi-pollos (our Chem Lab students) who stayed up until as late as 3:00 a.m., making sure all the water, blood and urine samples from the day were complete.  They asked what could be done to help and the result was this life-saving donation that we will be using in June in Poncitlan, Jalisco during our project with Brophy College Preparatory volunteers.  Thank you Barry and Carmen for your donation to the Tia Brigade!
