We couldn’t be prouder of our brigade from Universidad del Valle de Mexico‘s Zapopan Campus.  They brought along a mobile lab and chemists on our last project.  For the first time, our villagers got free testing services, processed on the spot and analyzed so results could be shared quickly.  One man’s life was saved from kidney failure!  He was immediately rushed to a hospital.  Bravo UVM!  One of many reasons we LOVE our medical school partner.  They not only supply us with doctors, but nurses, nutritionists, psychologists and now chemists too.

We decided to create a photo journal of our trip with Brophy College Preparatory Academy.  We hope you will enjoy the story of our journey together! Click here or go to https://tiafoundation.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/noticas110116.pdf.  If you have ever been interested in joining us in the field, this special 6 page newsletter will give you a great idea of what it would be like.

Tia is proud to announce that we now have 481 Promotores serving about 157,000 people in five states in Mexico!  During our project last week in La Manzanilla de La Paz, we discovered that many people do not have access to clean drinking water.  Our UVM brigade taught our Promotores how to make a simple and very inexpensive water filtration system with items that can be found around the house.  The children of our health workers were particularly fascinated by this and decided to join in on the experiment as you see here, thus demonstrating that this water purification method is so easy, a child can do it!

Our UVM Brigade, pictured in their white coats in front, and the Promotores behind them are ready to begin their course.  The government representatives in red and purple shirts gave us a very warm welcome, including the Municipal President Ing. Carlos Andrés López Barbosa who is seated at the foot of the flagpole in the checkered shirt.  We were surprised by how many turned out!  More than 50 people want to be Promotores (Community Health Workers), including some of the people from the municipal government.

UVM is more the up to the task!  This time, the brought a mobile laboratory and lots of testing kits.  Andele!

Brophy Joins Tia in the Field

We are proud to announce that some of the young men from Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix will be joining us as volunteers on our project in La Manzanilla de la Paz this week.  Most of these students have aspirations to become doctors, but they also share the desire to be of real service to those less fortunate.  These young men and their chaperones will be assembling our medical kits, assisting the UVM doctors during consultations, attending courses with the Promotoras, and helping out at graduation.  We are so excited to welcome them to our team!
