All Turn Out to Assemble Medical Kits!

Image

We assembed our medical kits for this project in record time!  The efficiency was due to our great volunteers from many parts of the local community.  The first wave of volunteers came from the Rotary Club Costalegre.  Huge thanks to Carrie Sacco for organizing everyone and to Leone Ewoldt for recruiting so many volunteers!  Not only that, but the generous Rotarians also donated a healthy portion of the costs of feeding our brigade.

Shortly thereafter, the employees of the Grand Bay Hotel Isla Navidad Resort by Wyndham joined us.  They did not have far to go because the resort was generous enough to provide us with an unused ballroom and aguas frescas for the thirsty workers.  Having a secure, clean and dust-free place to assemble the valuable kits is vital.

Just when the first wave began to tire, after hours of hard work, the  employees and friends of the Municipality of Cihuatlan, Jalisco reinforcements arrived to finish the last set of medical kits and do clean up work.  Thank you to all of these great members of the community who helped us put together 24 medical kits in 5 hours, rather than the usual 10+!!!!!

Buying Medical Supplies This Week!

Laura Libman arrived in Guadalajara last night and is meeting with our friends at UAG’s Community Medicine Program to finalize the contents of the medical kiits for our Promotoras (Community Health Workers) in the municipality of Cihuatlan.  Our project will be running during the week of March 19th.  Check back for more updates!

Despite Hurricane, Cihuatlan Recovering!

Still suffering from the devastation of hurricane Jova, and the subsequent flooding and mud slides, the people of the municipality of Cihuatlan, Jalisco are determined to recover and rebuild.  This is where Tia’s next project will be held, during the week of March 19th.  A UAG PMC Brigade of approximately 40 people will be providing free medical consultations, training for Tia Promotoras, school and community education, and gathering the data for our community studies.

In addition, the local Rotarians, the municipal government of Cihuatlan, the employees and management of the Isla de Navidad Grand Bay Resort, and local residents are all banding together to make this a smooth operation.  Helping us prove once again, that together we can do almost anything!

All Set for March!

We had a great meeting with Jorge Garibay, General Manager at the Grand Bay Hotel-Isla Navidad Resort.  From left to right, Laura Libman (Tia Foundation) with Dr. Roberto Martinez, Dr. Francisco Enrique Castenada Rico and Dr. Enrique Castenada all from UAG‘s Programa de Medicina en la Communidad, made the trip to Barra de Navidad to make plans for the next project launch nearby. Part of a world class medical program, these doctors will lead a brigade of 30-40 medical students and professors who provide the incredibly comprehensive training the fortunate Tia Promotoras receive.

Lic. Garibay and our friends at the Isla Navidad Resort are providing us with much needed space and volunteers.  Jorge Garibay is also helping us coordinate with the local municipality and community organizations. The project will be held the week of March 19th and the graduation on Friday, March 23rd.  Some of our donors plan to be guests at this luxury resort while they attend the graduation ceremony and stay for a relaxing short vacation afterward.

Stay tuned!  More details to come…
